What is the problem?
Smoke, sparks or bare wires exposed
Turn off the electricity at the consumer unit and contact us.
Which room is it in? What type of socket, light or switch is it?
No lights or power in all or part of the property
Is there a power cut? Are other flats or houses in the area affected? If so, phone your electricity supply company. If it is not a power cut, it is often caused by a bulb or faulty appliance which has tripped. Check what might have caused the problem and then reset the trip switch (or mains fuse).
Which lights and sockets are affected? We will charge you if the problem is caused by your appliance.
Light or light switch not working or flickering
Which room is it in? Have you checked the fuse or trip switch? Have you tried a new bulb, fluorescent tube or starter? You are responsible for this. See Changing a fluorescent tube or starter.
Light or light switch loose or broken
Which room is it in? Is it a single or double switch, or a pullcord? Is it a pendant or batten lampholder?
What is the problem, for example, is a switch or cord loose or broken?
Socket not working, loose or broken, or an appliance not working
Which room is it in? Have you checked the fuse or trip switch? See Resetting a trip switch. Check if an appliance is faulty by using it in another socket.
Is it a single or double socket, or a cooker control unit? You are responsible for replacing electrical plugs and fuses.
Extractor fan not working
Which room is the fan in? Have you checked the fuse or trip switch? See Resetting a trip switch.
Smoke detector faulty or beeping
Have you tested it? See About your smoke detector. What is the problem?
